The annual Most Influential American Bracket has been set and the 16th president of the United States Abraham Lincoln earned the #1 overall seed as voted on by students in my United States History class. Joining Lincoln as a #1 seed is Alexander Graham Bell in the Innovators division; Martin Luther King in the Social Activists division and Lewis and Clark in the Wild Card division.
The full bracket has some outstanding first round matchups. In the presidents' bracket there is a classic 5-12 match up of compassionate conservatives as #5 Ronald Reagan goes up against #12 Dwight Eisenhower. We aren't sure who will come out on top but we do know that small government will win. In the innovators division, the 8-9 matchups is literally life and death as the #9 James Watson--who discovered and created the model for DNA does battle with the man who created the atomic bomb #8 Robert Oppenheimer. That matchup should have plenty of fireworks. In the wild card division 2 native sons of Kentucky do battle as the Great Compromiser Henry Clay will compete against the man who "floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee" Muhammad Ali. A final interesting matchup is in the Social Activists bracket as the voice of Mexican Immigrants Cesar Chavez is the 10 seed looking to upset women's rights activist Elizabeth Stanton in what should be a competitive first round match up.
